Arzuaga Navarro Gran Reserva 2016

Winery: Arzuaga navarro
Country: Spain
Region: Ribera del duero
Body: Full
Varietal: Tempranillo & blends

A blend of Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Arzuaga Navarro Gran Reserva has a ruby red colour that is clean and shiny. This is a wine rich in nuances, exhibiting a range of aromas from leather to very surprising fruit memories, along with flashes of black licorice. All this combined with spicy aromas like box of cigars and cinnamon making it a complex and striking wine. On the palate, there is a great gustatory and olfactory balance. It is a unctuous wine, silky and pleasant. It emphasizes its perfect balance and sobriety, it has wonderful sensations of vitality. The Arzuaga Navarro Gran Reserva goes well with red meat, roasted or in sauces, game dishes and cured or creamy cheeses.

The Arzuaga Gran Reserva is made from grapes taken off extremely low yielding, old Tempranillo vines (95%) with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot making up the difference. The Tempranillo vines produce about 3000kg of fruits per hectare. It takes about 1 kg of fruit to make a bottle of wine, so each plot of land measuring 100 meters by 100 meters produces only around 3 bottles of the Gran Arzuaga. The wine spent 40 months in oak barrels before release. Only about 4000 bottles are produced.
