Founded in 1694 and acquired by Jannie Engelbrecht in 1977, Rust en Vrede Estate is one of South Africa's most prominent wineries specialising in the making of red wines. The Rust en Vrede Estate Blend was the first South African wine to make it to the Wine Spectator's annual Top 100 Wines in the World list, and the only South African wine to be featured 5 times for vintages 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2012. It also has the distinction of being served at President Nelson Mandela's Noble Peace Prize Dinner in Oslo, Norway in 1993.
Besides the Rust en Vrede name, the Engelbrecht family also produces white wines under the Donkiesbaai and Stellenbosch Reserve brands. For white wine lovers, we highly recommend the Donkiesbaai Steen (South African moniker for Chenin Blanc). It is a multi layered flavourful wine that's very versatile. All available vintages of this fairly priced wine are rated on Vivino at 4.0 and above. Truly amazing wine!
