I came across Amelia Park Wines quite by chance earlier this year, and I’ve been thinking about them ever since. It was a winery that I had heard good things in the past, but with the multitude of wineries out there waiting to be discovered, one that had unfortunately fallen through the gap.
It was back in May at Vinexpo Singapore, wandering through the endless sea of booths, when I stopped by a modest stand run by a couple who, at first glance, didn’t look like your typical showy wine marketers. That turned out to be Jeremy and Daniela Gordon, the husband and wife team behind Amelia Park Wines. No hard sell, no rehearsed pitch. Just a warm welcome, genuine conversation, and a quiet confidence that said, “Just taste the wines.”
So I did.
And I’m glad I did, because the wines were outstanding. Balanced, elegant, and full of character. It was everything I look for in wines from Margaret River, and then some. You could tell these were wines made with a clear purpose, but without fuss. The more I tasted through the range, the more I found myself thinking, "Why haven’t I paid more attention to these guys before?"
Jeremy, it turns out, isn’t just any winemaker. He’s been doing this for decades and has won many awards and trophies, including Australia’s most prestigious Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy. Under his lead, Amelia Park has racked up a serious number of awards over the years, including gold medals at the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards, Sydney Royal Wine Show, and the Margaret River Wine Show to name a few. But what struck me most was how unassuming both he and Daniela were about it all. Just two people who clearly love what they do and let the wines speak for themselves.
Amelia Park’s lineup is thoughtfully crafted. Broadly, they’ve got 3 different ranges, but everything is tied together by a common thread of clarity and balance.
The Trellis Collection is their more everyday friendly range. I usually scrunch up my nose at Australian wines at family mart prices, as these are typically alcoholic, jammy specimens that you could spread on your toast if you ever run out of marmalade. The Trellis wines are totally opposite of this characterisation and frankly, punches well above its price point. These are wines you can open any day of the week. They are generous, fruit driven, but still distinctly Margaret River. The Trellis Cabernet Merlot and Trellis Sauvignon Blanc Semillon were both highlights for me: clean, vibrant, and very drinkable without sacrificing depth.
Then comes the Amelia Park Collection, which sits right in the middle and is, in many ways, the heart of the brand. These are classic Margaret River expressions with a bit more structure and depth, perfect for those who want something more refined but still approachable. I tried the Amelia Park Cabernet Merlot and the Amelia Park Chardonnay, and both had that lifted aromatics, fine acidity, and texture that make them perfect for pairing with food. These wines really show off the skill in blending and vineyard selection. The wines are elegant, expressive, and while drinking perfectly now, would have no problem lying down for 3 to 5 years.
Finally, there’s the Reserve Collection, which really showcases Jeremy’s winemaking chops. These are serious wines that are structured, balanced and gently crafted to age. The Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon stood out immediately: dark berry fruit, subtle leafiness, beautifully integrated oak, and fine, long tannins. Classic Margaret River Cab, done right. The Reserve Chardonnay was just as compelling. Its layered and textural with stone fruit, citrus, and that lovely line of acidity that makes you want to keep going back for another sip.
What I really appreciated was how the wines felt complete and not overworked or trying to be something they’re not. There’s a kind of restraint and elegance to them, but also a generosity that makes them enjoyable no matter where you are on your wine journey.
Since the show, I’ve found myself referencing other Margaret River wines I was drinking against the Amelia Park wines, and every time I do, I’m reminded of that brief but memorable conversation at the booth. There’s something special about discovering a winery not through advertising or hype, but through genuine human connection and of course, great wine.
If you’re someone who appreciates wines with purity, regional character, and quiet confidence, I’d say Amelia Park is worth exploring. Start with the Trellis range if you want an easy entry point, the main Amelia Park collection for a weekend special, or dive into the Reserve wines if you’re looking to add something special to your cellar. Whichever way, you’re in for something genuinely enjoyable.
