The 2020 Ornellaia is fresh and energetic with aromas of blackcurrants, crushed stone, and pencil shavings. It’s full-bodied but tight, with firm tannins and great length. The wine shows a nice balance of richness and structure, with dark fruit, tobacco, and savory notes. It needs a few years to come together—best from 2028 onward. This vintage reflects a mix of cool and warm weather, giving the wine finesse and complexity. A powerful, elegant wine that rewards patience.

It opens to an impenetrable, full-bodied approach with dark fruit, pencil shaving, toasted oak, Spanish cedar, campfire ash and iron ore. For sure, this is an especially concentrated and oak-driven vintage of this iconic wine. It absolutely requires more aging time. It feels quite tight and firm in its youth.
