Matsu La Jefa 2020

Winery: Matsu
Country: Spain
Region: Toro
Body: Medium
Varietal: Other white varietals
The Matsu La Jefa shows a highly complex aromatic profile. Vanilla and ripe stone fruits characteristics stand out, accompanied by creamy notes. It is complemented with slight aniseed nuances, to reflect a nose harmonized by its ageing in casks, sweet character and a great diversity of nuances. The Matsu La Jefa is a mouth-filling, silky wine with great creaminess. At the same time with good acidity, the result is a very balanced and elegant wine that is pleasant to enjoy.

The name La Jefa translates to The (female) Boss, which is appropriate for this bottle. Usually a quiet workhorse varietal used in a blend to give wines an aromatic lift, Malvasia takes centre stage here with a 100% unblended option. As far as we know, Bodegas Matsu might be the first and only winery in Toro to produce a white wine and the result is great. The nose is very expressive and the palate is layered and round. This roundness though may give the impression that the Matsu La Jefa has a short finish. The opulence actually gives way to a long dry finish which is evident to the connoisseur. Overall, the Matsu La Jefa is a very enjoyable wine.
