The Les Hauts de Smith Rouge has a lovely dark red robe. The bouquet is open and elegant, expressing red and black fruit aromas (cherry and blackcurrant), spicy hints (clove) and empyreumatic notes, primarily flint. The wine is powerful and well balanced on the palate. The attack is gentle, then the concentration and supple body come to the fore, forming an overwhelming impression of roundness. There are nice layers of ripe tannins topped by lovely aromatic complexity. The Les Hauts de Smith Rouge is a pleasant, concentrated, round wine which will be ideal for drinking in 3 to 5 years time.
