Winery: Cloudy bay
Country: New ZealandRegion: Marlborough
Varietal: Sauvignon blanc
Pale straw green in colour and enticingly fragrant, this Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc offers lifted aromas of ripe stonefruit and juicy citrus with underlying notes of blackcurrant leaf and tomato plant spice. The palate is fine yet succulent, with zesty citrus flavours and fresh acidity. There is an appealing plushness about this wine especially as it leads into a lingering and characteristically crisp finish. Fruit was harvested during the cooler night and early morning temperatures. Grapes were de-stemmed and transferred straight to tank presses within hours of picking. Free run and lightly pressed juice was cold settled for 48–72 hours then racked and inoculated with yeast. Fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks at a low temperature to preserve freshness. At the blending bench, only components presenting a true expression of their vineyard site were considered.
When customers buy Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc in Singapore, many buy into the brand name foremost and the product next. At Wines Online, we are honest in our assessment. We have customers who rave about the wine and customers who simply dismiss it as the work of a powerful marketing team. For us, the Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc is a consistent, well made specimen of this varietal and is absolutely delicious. The price however typically hovers around the high $50s mark in Singapore. At this price, it is at the high end of an unoaked New Zealand (and more specifically Marlborough) Sauvignon Blanc. We are definitely paying a premium on the brand. We suggest you buy the Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc if you have never had this wine before, just to see what the fuss is about. Or if you are bringing a bottle of wine to the party, the Cloudy Bay brand is a fail safe option. Of course, if you are a fan of the winery, don't let us stop you from drinking it.
