Bastianich Calabrone 2018

Winery: Bastianich
Country: Italy
Region: Friuli
Body: Medium full
Varietal: Other red varietals

The Bastianich Calabrone is a blend based on Refosco and Merlot made in an Amarone style with a percentage of dried grapes. This process intensifies its flavors and softens its tannins.

The Bastianich Calabrone's nose is filled with chocolate, spice, coffee and mature red fruit. The palate has intense fruit, considerable power and grip, while maintaining elegance and acidic balance on the finish. This great red wine is ideal with robust red meat dishes, especially game, like wild boar and venison.

"The Calabrone is a crazy wine, it shows so many spices, cloves, nutmeg and small berries. Full bodied and slightly sweet, it shows round tannins and a lively finish. Very similar to an amarone." James Suckling

"A juicy red in a mature style, with noble tannins imprint on the complex palate with black currant puree, plum sauce, licorice and melted tar. Hints of fig bread, espresso coffee and grilled herbs dwell on the rich aftertaste." Wine Spectator
