Taltarni Vineyards is a pioneering winery located in the Pyrenees region of Victoria in Australia. Originally a gold mining region, the area pivoted towards viticulture as the gold veins ran out and winemakers realised that Pyrenees was an excellent geographical location to make elegant cool climate wines.
Established in 1969, the modern era of Taltarni began in 1972 when American businessman John Goelet (himself a scion of Daniel Guestier III who cofounded the historic Bordeaux-based wine merchant company Barton & Guestier), in collaboration with French winemaker Dominique Portet, acquired the estate. Together with Portet, they sought to create exceptional wines in the Pyrenees region. Portet, hailing from a family with deep roots in Bordeaux winemaking, became Taltarni's first winemaker, crafting the winery's inaugural commercial vintage in 1977. These early releases, notably the Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, were recognized for their depth and aging potential.
The James Halliday 5 stars rated winery is today renowned for making classy wines that are to be savoured slowly with good food and great company. If you love fruit bombs and expect to be punched in the face with an unrestrained alcohol burst, this is not the winery for you.
Taltarni is well known for making premium quality wines at affordable prices. Alas, the vissisitudes of fortune in some markets has necessitated prices to undergo a haircut treatment, but not for long. Enjoy up to 29% off our selection. While stocks last!
