Appellation: Multi-district blend, South Australia. Significant contributions from Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley and Langhorne Creek.
Vibrant ruby red in colour, the Penfolds Max's Shiraz has a nose that shows vanilla custard generosity and sweet spices of nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger. Pastille-like juiciness is suggested. The palate has an abundance of black cherry and blood plum flavours creating luscious texture and vibrant energy. Tiramisu creaminess of coffee, dark and milk chocolate and Italian sweet spice. Tannins appear to assist a silky call-out and provide mid-palate expansion. Gloss and sheen ensure approachability.
