Domaine de la Solitude is a Châteauneuf-du-Pape producer, situated on the western edge of the La Crau Plateau in the heart of the appellation. It is owned by the Lançon family who have organically farmed the vines for multiple generations.
The scribed history of the estate begins in the 17th Century when Hélène Barberini, a descendant of the noble Tuscan family, married vineyard proprietor Claude Martin. Their grandson, Paul Martin would be the first to bottle wine and export it to England, establishing the "Vin de la Solitude" label. Today, the "Wines of Solitude" collection is produced in tribute to Paul and his accomplishments for the company.
It is now the eighth generation of the Lançon family that organically farms 37 hectares (91 acres) planted to 13 different grape varieties. The oldest parcel of the estate is a plot of Grenache vines over a hundred years of age. Other varieties include Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, and Clairette as well as Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and Picpoul for the white selection.
The portfolio of wines is led by the Réserve Secrète, a Grenache and Syrah blend produced only in optimal years. It is whole-bunch vinified in concrete tanks before aging in both barrels and stainless steel tanks before bottling.
