Bastianich Vespa Rosso 2016

Winery: Bastianich
Country: Italy
Region: Friuli
Body: Medium full
Varietal: Merlot

A blend based on Merlot and Refosco.

Vespa Rosso is Bastianich's estate red, which balances power and finesse through a combination of indigenous and international varieties. The wine is uncommonly fruit-forward and structured for a “cold climate” red wine, yet it retains many of the spicy, earthy notes that characterize Friulian reds. This is achieved through sharply reducing yields in the vineyard and using small batch fermentation in tonneaux in the cellar. The end result is a wine that rises beyond the ranks of everyday reds.

The Bastianich Vespa Rosso is ideal with roasts, steaks and pork dishes.

"It shows lots of ripe fruit, with hints of plums. Full body, soft and velvety tannins and a long and flavorful aftertaste. Doughy and delicious. Spicy and fruity." James Suckling

"Vespa Rosso has great intensity... harmony with wealth... Velvety, opulent. Excellent." RP
