Made from 100% Nebbiolo.
The Borgogno No Name is a declassfied Barolo made by Giacomo Borgogno e Figli. The nebbiolo grapes are taken from the best vineyards in the winery. It is a Barolo made in a softer and more approachable style but the Italian wine authorities initially rejected the request to have the word Barolo printed on the label as it was atypical of the usual Barolo. Although subsequently approved by the authorities, the winery decided to continue with the No Name label as a mark of protest against Italian wine bureaucracy.
The Borgogno No Name has a dark ruby red color with light garnet reflections. The perfume on the nose expresses spicy notes that are flanked by an olfactory profile characterized by jam, dried flowers, raspberry syrup, tamarind. The taste in the mouth is balanced, elegant and fresh, balanced by an excellent acidity and a beautiful tannic texture. It closes with a finish of excellent persistence on the fruit.
"Attractive nose of red berries, lemons, mushrooms and cloves. Lightly bitter charcoal undertones. Medium-bodied with firm yet integrated tannins. Supple at the end." - James Suckling, 91 points
