From selected parcels and pickings in the estate’s trio of Grosses Gewächs sites, the Schlossgut Diel Dorsheim Riesling Trocken – like its Burg Layen counterpart – reflects Caroline Diel’s endeavour to, through among other things slightly earlier picking, achieve a wine stylistically distinct from those Grosse Gewächse. This displays the infectious juiciness and mouthwatering salinity of the collection’s generic bottlings allied to the sort of enhanced mineral intensity and extract found in its Burg Layen sibling. Toasted grains, sea breeze, wet stone and zesty lime inform a penetrating nose. The palate is firm but polished. Pleasantly tart and piquantly pip-tinged lime and crabapple manage to deliver an exhilarating and cleanly refreshing expression of acidity in a vibrantly persistent and consummately refreshing finish.
