Country: China (Yunnan)
Aged 18 months in 100% new French barriques followed by 12 months in bottle before release.
The Célèbre Hauts Plateaux de L'Himalaya Red has a deep ruby appearance. It sports an immediately lifted, open and appealing nose of ripe cassis, bramble and black cherry fruit with delicate pyrazine notes of sage and a touch of mint nicely wrapped up in judicious use of new oak. On the palate, the Célèbre Hauts Plateaux de L'Himalaya Red is full-bodied, with ripe, coating tannins, lively acidity and well-integrated alcohol, providing a nuanced frame for the core of impressive fruit flanked by those toasted oak notes. With its longer, if not very long length, the Célèbre Red is immediately engaging and drinking well now, but it will also improve in bottle over the next 5-7 years. This is already among China’s best wines and shows, in the wake of Ao Yun, just how much potential Yunnan has to make world-class Cabernet.
