Beautiful deep, intense cherry-red colour with glints of ruby. The rich, intense nose opens quickly with floral notes, powdered rose, peony and iris root. Then, as the wine breathes, smoky and flinty scents, black pepper and white pepper express themselves in a complex and expansive fashion. The palate is full, deep and structured. The tannins are silky, smooth and well present. The finish is long with pronounced black fruit.
The Rhone wine category is so dominated by southern Chateauneuf-Du-Pape and Cotes Du Rhone options that often, we overlook red wines from the North. Unlike Southern Rhone reds which tend to be heavier Syrah blends, the Cuvee Louis Belle is made 100% from Syrah grapes and aged in oak barrels for 16 months. The result is an elegant wine that exhibits pure Syrah flavours that are very well integrated with secondary flavours arising from the judicious use of new and old oak barrels. The Domaine Belle Crozes Hermitage Cuvee Louis Belle is one of our favourite wines and goes really well with lamb, duck and goose.
