Appellation: Margaux, 1855 Bordeaux Wine Classification (Fifth Growth)
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot
Tertre translates directly to knoll, a piece of high ground. Château du Tertre is situated atop the highest ground in the Margaux appellation. With trademark pebbly soil, Tertre comes under the stewardship of Philippe Gasqueton (of Château Calon-Ségur) and produces wines of considerable finesse. Considered by many as an underrated cru classé, the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot blend has begun to take giant strides in the past 20 years.
"The 2012 du Tertre is quite open and expressive today, with hints of game, smoke, saddle leather, grilled herbs, dried flowers and mint that lift from the glass. An unusually perfumed and also delicate du Tertre, the 2012 is already quite open. The 2012 is not likely to be a long term ager, but it is quite pretty today. A closing hit of red-fleshed fruits rounds out the finish. Drink 2016 - 2027." - Antonio Galloni (90 points)
