Casa Primicia Julian Madrid Reserva

VINTAGE: 2011
WINERY:Casa primicia
COUNTRY: Spain
REGION:Rioja
BODY: Medium Full
From the premium sub region of Alavesa (Alava) in Rioja. Grapes from a selection of vineyards over 50 years old. The Casa Primicia Julian Madrid Reserva is intense, with fully ripe black fruit aromas; spicy notes with a hint of toasted wood against a dairy background. On the palate, black fruit flavours are evident, with an excellent tannin structure, accompanied with a long finish. 20 months in French and American Oak.

Beautiful dark red in colour, I find the Julian Madrid Reserva possesses dark fruit aromas of blackcurrants and cherries intermixed with a slight spicy note. In the mouth, the dark fruit profile and spice follow through with secondary flavours of leather and herb appearing once the wine opens up. The tannins are well integrated after extended bottle ageing, while the wine continues to show fresh acidity. This wine drinks well on its own, but it will be perfect with lamb and beef especially.
